30 Something
After a long hiatus from the blog world, I've decided to re-enter. So in case you need another workplace time waster or something to read on your phone during commercial breaks, I'm your girl. You're welcome, internet.
The 30's are a weird, funny decade. One minute you're giving your single friend advice on if she should message that dude on tinder; the next you're picking out a baby shower gift for a mom-to-be friend. I have a friend who recently quit her job to travel the world, one who is planning to open a business, a few getting promoted and a few changing careers. Some have husbands and wives, some have roommates and cats. It's a hilarious mix.
I am of the in-a-long-term-relationship-but-not-engaged-still-renting-in-the-city variety of early 30 something. I get frequent questions about when I'm getting married and when I'm buying a house in the burbs. I also get an equal amount of support from city dwelling friends who, as I do, see moving to the burbs as your soul dying. A real life recent exchange:
Me: "We're going to move out of the North End when our lease is up. We need to move somewhere cheaper to save money to eventually buy something. You know, start behaving like adults"
Friend: Gasps and widens her eyes "To the SUBURBS?!"
Me: "NO! Maybe Somerville or Southie"
Friend: "Oh, thank God"
You would have though I suggested moving to a hut in the dessert or something, the way my friend reacted. Also, the chat about adulthood took places while drinking beers at 11:00 am on a Sunday after banging out a 5K. The Good Life, I tell you!
